About Us

East London Montessori School offers excellent education to children aged 3-12 years (Grade 1-7).

  • 3-6 years: (Pre-School )
  • 6-9 years: (Lower) Grade 1/2/3.
  • 9-12 years 🙁 Upper Elementary) Grade 4/5/6.

We have small classes. Each class has a maximum of 30 children with a teacher and an assistant in each class.

The smaller groups allow children to have more specialised attention. The children are allowed to work in groups or do individual work. Lessons are presented in groups and also individual lessons are given.

The vision of our school is to provide our children with an education that will make them independent, confident and positive citizens who will actively contribute to a changing society.

Our mission is to prepare children for the future and to prepare them for life. Authentic learning is of paramount importance to us. Good solid grounding is of importance to us as well as manners and discipline.

Our aim is to foster an attitude of learning to love to learn. We aim to help children to discover the 14 human tendencies and use them to their full potential. We strive to find the value of each child and focus on using their value as a tool for their foundation of learning.

The business started as a pre-school in December 2002 when I returned from London and was looking for a school as good as the school I headed in Winchester.

Our History

The opportunity arose to purchase a school in Gonubie in December 2002 and this is when Mayas Montessori opened its doors, teaching children between the ages of 3-6 years. These children with the use of the Montessori materials and good, qualified teachers (myself and an assistant) grew from strength to strength and due to pressure from parents I proceeded to fully qualify in primary teaching.

When I had obtained my primary teaching qualification I started to search for a farm school where I could open a primary school. I wanted to have a farm school where they could grow to their full potential, being able to go on outings and explore and interact with animals and grow their own vegetables. After 2 years of searching I found the perfect location on Little Go Farm, Old Beacon Bay road. In February 2014 we opened the farm school.

The business to date is running very well. I am managing the business and doing the books/finances/managing of staff and children/ teaching in the classroom also, this is made possible with the support of amazing staff.

I have an accountant that does all the financials and a husband whom is an attorney and deals with all the legal matters. I have a secretary that sees to parents and runs errands and we have a staff body of 23 at the school who all have different portfolios of work.
